Overview
One of the Most Beautiful Plantations in SW Georgia
This plantation has been one of the most highly regarded properties in SW Georgia… for at least the last ten centuries. The Mississippian Culture (A.D. 1100-1350) even regarded the property as religiously significant building the Singer-Moye Mounds, the fifth largest ceremonial mounds in the State of Georgia (located just off today's property line). The plantation is named after the Singer Family, who manicured the 1,816± acre plantation as a recreational paradise and established it as we know it today.
The Singer Company, founded in 1838, prospered originally as a boot company supplying shoes to the Confederate army and then eventually becoming the "Oldest hardware store in Georgia." However, the most prosperous family member was Fred Singer whose investments with the founders of Coca Cola made him extremely wealthy. The plantation was purchased in 1910 and was used extensively for entertaining. In the last 98 years there have been two owners. The fact that approximately 80% of the timber and groundcover is natural is testament to the true uniqueness of this property.
The area around the property is steeped in the traditions and history of the Old South. The land ownerships in this immediate area are still unfragmented and almost completely surrounded by large landowners including two other quail plantations, Kawikee Refuge and Ole Pataula Homeplace. Improvements on the property include a five bedroom/five bath lakefront lodge, two additional homes, a tennis court, swimming pool, pool house, and assorted barns.
The current owner has several plantations, including one of the top ten wild bird plantations in Thomasville. He has groomed the habitat here to create one of the most exceptionally managed properties in the Albany area. Unlike most Albany area plantations, the soils here are extremely rich with an exceptionally high site index that manifests itself through incredible growth and diversity of timber, lush groundcover, numerous flowing creeks, and bountiful wildlife. The plantation has recently been brought to the forefront in modern quail management with extensive capital improvements based on the recommendations of some of the world's leading wild quail experts. This property is polished and manicured for horseback quail hunting.
This tract has it all. Trophy deer and turkey hunting, quail, duck and doves. There are several flowing creeks which provide exceptional game flow. As one would expect with the food plots, creeks, ponds, and a 100 +/- acre lake, there is an exceptional turkey and deer population.
Singer Lake itself is one of the largest lakes in South Georgia. There is an inconspicuous 17-acre out parcel, retained by members of the Singer family, along with rights to 50% of the lake. The 100+/- acre lake built in 1941 is 17 feet deep at the dam and averages approximately 10 feet deep. This is one of the few high-quality undeveloped lakes in South Georgia and a wealth of this limited resource. Currently, the backdrop of Singer Lake with the rolling pine and wiregrass covered hills make the quail courses some of the most scenic bird hunting imaginable. Leaving the property like it is would be ideal. Leaving it in your asset portfolio would be perfect.
